The Biewer Yorkshire Terrier a la Pom Pon

                 Written by Debbie Mullins

It started with Streamglen Kennels of the United Kingdom, In the  60's and 70's Streamglen was producing Champions and everyone wanted  a Streamglen dog. Streamglen had exported dogs worldwide and was famous for their Champions.

In 1975 Mr Biewer purchased 2 dogs from Streamglen Kennels, Streamglen Richard DOB:10/6/1972(photo) and Streamglen Flora.  Streamglen Richard was a consistant championship show winner and became  German Champion(photo). Most Biewer sites say Mr Biewer bought 4 dogs which is not true, he raised most of his Champions from Streamglen Richard.

Mr. Biewer bred Streamglen Richard to every single female he had , some of these females include Streamglen Flora, Bonny Von Friedheck, Anja Von Friedheck, Graziella Von Friedheck ( photo)   EEv Von Friedheck(photo), Olivia Vadelle...

From the matings of  Richard and  Flora came Muccu Von Friedheck,(photo)

from Richard and Graziella came Quardi von Friedheck,(Photo)

from Richard and  EEv Von Friedheck came Princess Von Friedheck,

from Richard and Bonny came Iwy Von Friedheck,

From Richard and Anja came  Tschitschi Von Friedheck.

Muccu Von Friedheck was bred to  Iwy Von Friedheck producing Darling Von Friedheck/Pedigree

Quardi Von Friedheck was bred to Princess Von Friedheck  producing  Dinie Von Friedheck/Pedigree

Quardi Von Friedheck was bred to Tschitschi Von Friedheck producing Fru Fru Von Friedheck/Pedigree

These dogs are the foundation of the Biewer Yorkshire Terrier A la Pom-Pon

Mr Biewer then bred Darling von Friedheck to Fru Fru Von Friedheck and on January 20, 1984  a beautiful  tri colored Yorkshire Terrier was born, He named her Scheneeflockchen Von Friedheck.

It is thought that a recessive piebald gene present in both dogs combined making the dominiant gene in the puppy giving the white underbelly and unusual markings. It  has also been hearsay/rumored other breeds were bred in  and that a Shih Tzu cross occurred , We feel These speculations are simply not true and Streamglen never bred , showed or owned anything but  Yorkshire Terriers.

Mr. Biewer loved this color  so he continued to breed for the tri-colored Yorkshire Terriers.

From here he  line bred/inbred to keep producing the Parti colored Yorkshire Terrier.

Mr.  Biewer first introduced his tri-colored dogs to the show ring in March 1988, at Wiesbaden, Germany. At this time he presented 2 dogs and called them black and white Yorkies.

The VDH denied the acceptance of the dogs as being a breed of their own. They instead designated them as being of “wrong color, not for breeding.” Mr. Biewer was unhappy with this decision and began his search for a registry that would accept his beloved black and white Yorkies as a separate breed. The ACH (Allgemeiner Club der Hundefreunde Deutschland e.V.) was the first club to accept them as a distinct and separate breed. The dogs were then registered as Biewer Yorkshire Terrier a la Pom Pon.  "Had they been accepted into the  VDH they would not  have been called Biewer, they would have simply been Parti colored Yorkshire Terriers."

In 1989 when Mr. Biewer signed the standard for the Biewer Yorkshire Terrier a la Pom-Pon, it was that of a Yorkshire Terrier with the coloring being white-blue-gold.

Mr. Biewer died in 1997 and his wife Gertrude Biewer  dispersed all the dogs and discontinued the breeding program. The first German Biewer Yorkshire club was established on May 24, 2003.

The Biewer first originated in the United States in 2003 and from there is has taken  many different roads, and many biewer clubs. Some say it is a yorkshire Terrier, some say it is a breed of its own, some say its mixed with other breeds, each trying to get this little dog into AKC.  AKC will not accept the Biewer into the registry because they consider it to be a parti colored Yorkshire terrier(A color variation of the Yorkie). The U.S.  Biewer Clubs cannot agree and continue to debate over this Beautiful, Stunning Little Terrier.
